Date of production: 2000

Context

The XIIth International Conference on Aids took place from July 9th to 14th, 2000 in Durban, South Africa. For the first time, this conference was taking place on the African continent, although 22.5 million people are directly affected by Aids in sub-Saharan Africa (out of 33 million people affected in the whole world) and Aids has become the first mortality cause in many African countries. This international meeting was also an opportunity to make Western public opinion more aware of the terrible toll the pandemic is taking in Africa.

Objective

The Durban Conference aims at "breaking the silence" which still prevails today on this human disaster. The AIDES association whishes to contribute in breaking this deadly silence by making French people more aware of this human disaster.
This is why, as part of its Afrique 2000 Programme (which received the Fraternité 2000 label granted by Mission An 2000), AIDES has created a consciouness raising tool directed at the French general public to rally people on the issues of HIV and Africa.

Project

To bring together a collective of press cartoonists (mostly from the Canard Enchaîné) and directors (Ducastel and Martineau) to create an animation film based on press cartoons.
These cartoons were available in a boxed set sold in FNAC stores and trough the AIDES network.
