Date of production: 2005

Context

The 2004 data from the INVS (Institut de veille sanitaire – French Health Monitoring Institute) confirm tendencies that have been observed for some years: with the arrival of tri-therapies, Aids has been trivialised and there has been a loosening in preventive behaviours. In France, 7,000 persons have discovered they are HIV-positive.

Objective

To design a prevention message centred on condom use.

Concept

* "Do not leave them behind these holidays!" poster (Pendant les vacances ne les abandonnez pas!)

This poster stresses that everyone is responsible when it comes to sex and prevention. It draws a parallel between pets, who are often abandoned during summertime, and condoms which are too often neglected when having sex, especially during summer. Women are a population which is particularly at risks. AIDES decided to promote the female condom to remind that there is a way of getting protected which is specific to women, and confers real autonomy to those who have difficulties in convincing their male partners to use a condom.

* "Anti-Urchin/Anti-Virus" poster

This poster aims at reminding that condom is the only way of being effectively protected against Aids. It aims at trivialising this prevention tool so that using it becomes a reflex.  Just like someone would use sandals to be protected against urchins when going to the seaside, one must systematically carry condoms in order to be protected against Aids virus when having sex.

Distribution

10,000 small posters and 40,000 prevention postcards distributed by AIDES volunteers on beaches and during prevention actions.
