Contraception and prevention of STIs and Aids

Condoms (male and female) are a good protection against Sexually Transmitted  Infections (STIs).

Using them can also prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Contraceptive pills, morning-after pills, spermicides and coils are all contraceptive means, BUT they offer no protection against STIs and Aids.

Reproduction and HIV positivity

If you or your companion are HIV-positive, and want to have a child, there are methods to prevent  HIV transmission between partners (assisted reproduction, etc.).

Look for the advice of your doctor or AIDES delegation.

HIV positivity and pregnancy

An HIV-positive mother can transmit the virus to her baby during pregnancy or delivery. Without an anti-HIV treatment during pregnancy, 20% of children are infected by HIV. With an effective anti-HIV treatment during pregnancy, less than 1% of children are infected by HIV.
