Six proposals for a more tolerant society!
However, we see day after day that there has been no change in the mentalities and representations linked to HIV. To be HIV-positive in France today means suffering discrimination and being condemned to exclusion within the social and working environment, the family and the couple. It is often felt to be a danger to reveal that one is HIV-positive as our society still has a real difficulty in understanding and accepting HIV infection and HIV-positive people. Against a background of an increasingly negative attitude to the sexual transmission of HIV, it is the responsibility of all of us remove this awful weight and allow everyone to reveal their HIV infection in a climate of trust.
Politicians have the means to improve the quality of social ties. The demands that we are placing today before the candidates for the presidency of France concern the way in which we wish to live together. These demands are based directly on our support, prevention and harm reduction activities in France and from our practical experience in the developing countries.
We have purposely limited the number of measures to which we ask candidates to commit themselves. Each one is realistic, achievable and essential. To preserve the dignity of HIV-positive people. To build a society that shows greater respect for differences and is more willing to integrate. To stem the tide of the AIDS epidemic.
