AIDES (South West region) launches the 6th edition of the BABY LOVE OCEAN TOUR 2010 !

For five years now, AIDES in partnership with LGBT organisations, has organised the prevention and harm reduction summer campaign aimed at reaching gay people on beaches and gay venues on the Atlantic coast in South West France.

This campaign is based on different themes each year and geared towards meeting and talking to men who have sex with men (MSM). This campaign allows us to collect data on prevention and sexual harm reduction practices and also to get an idea of peoples’ knowledge on transmission, protection and testing.

Through this action our activists can also collect qualitative data on various issues :

-In 2005, knowledge on post-exposure prophylaxis and the female condom;
-In 2006, the relationships gay men have with their doctors and health professionals
-In 2007, disclosure of HIV status with partners
-In 2008, the perception of HIV status in the gay community and discrimination inside the community
-In 2009, new prevention approaches and particularly community-based rapid testing or the use of treatment as prevention (TaSP).

For the 2010 edition, using a funny and off-beat slogan, “Honey, where did you put the virus?” we invite people to freely discuss the place HIV has in their lives. HIV positive, HIV negative or those who do not know their status, all MSM have something to say on the subject.
Our goal is to listen to what they have to say.
We will also discuss new prevention approaches, the experiments and reflections which AIDES is involved in, such as community-based rapid testing (Com’test), Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and bio-medical research.
